STONE HARD SEALS A Duet of Steamy SEAL romance by NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Sabrina York

Book One: Ryder A hostage rescue mission turns Ryder “Stone” Maddox’s world on its ear when he comes face-to-face with his greatest fear: A woman he cannot resist. But he has to resist Lily Wilson. He’s vowed never to fall in love. Besides, as the daughter of a senator, she is definitely off-limits. Lily sees things differently. Irresistibly drawn to this hot, hard SEAL, she is determined to prove they belong together…and that her man does not have a heart of stone.(Originally published in the NYT and USA Today Bestselling Hot Alpha SEALs collection)

Book Two: Drake Drake Ronan is all man—a rock hard SEAL who doesn’t need help from anyone. Doesn’t need anyone. But when he’s shot during a dangerous rescue mission, and has to rely on a beautiful nurse to survive, he realizes he has to rethink his resolution. Suddenly he can’t imagine his life without Brandy in it. It’s a damn shame she has a secret that could ruin everything.

  READ AN EXCERPT

“Are you hungry?” He asked because her belly growled loudly enough to attract pirates on the mainland.

“A little.” She licked her lips. “But I’m really thirsty.”

He pulled out the straw of his CamelBak and leaned forward, holding it to her lips. He should have shuttled off all his gear and just handed the damn thing to her because when she leaned in close and he got a whiff of her, he nearly passed out. You would think a woman who had been held prisoner by filthy pirates for nearly a week would smell bad. She did not. She smelled like heaven. There was a light musky odor of sweat—it was hot in the tropics—but it twined with something that was essentially female. He’d never felt such hunger. It screamed through his soul. And, on top of that, their faces were close. And she was sucking on the nozzle.

And fuck.

He was a warrior. A trained weapon. On a mission. This was no time for a hard on. But he was hard. Damn hard. Her lashes flickered as she glanced up at him; she moaned as she swallowed. A shiver walked down his spine. Walked right down his spine and coiled in his balls. When she sat back with a sigh, he put the nozzle to his lips as well. Not because he was particularly thirsty, but because he wanted a taste of her mouth, while it was still fresh. What he really wanted was to kiss her. But she was the senator’s daughter and he was a grunt. That wasn’t going to happen. It couldn’t.

“Did…did you say something about food?” Damn lashes. Fluttering again. He had the urge to grab his Gerber and snip them off. He pulled an MRE from a pocket on his left leg, read the label, and grimaced. He hated the meatloaf. He should have paid more attention when he prepped his gear. He had more in his pack, but this would do for now.

“I have this.” Her nose wrinkled as she studied the silver foil. Yeah. Wait ’til she got a taste. He ripped open the packet, broke off a piece, and handed it to her. It was messy, because of the gravy, but he didn’t want to unload everything to find an implement. They needed to eat and go.

She took a bite. Her eyes widened. “Yuuum,” she said in an unconvincing tone. It was all he could do to hold back his laugh. “What…” She swallowed heavily. “What is this?”

 “An MRE.”

 “What does that stand for?”

His lips quirked. “Meals Rarely Edible.”

Her brow wrinkled, and then she laughed. And ah, what a laugh. A melodic trill. Some kind of sound he figured you might hear in heaven. “Do you eat these often?”

“Not if I can help it.” He shoved a chunk in his mouth and fired it back. “But we have a long way to go today, and these have a lot of calories.”

She froze, a niblette of mystery meat halfway to her mouth. “How-how many calories?”

 “About twelve hundred a meal.”

She gaped at him. “Twelve hundred?” She glared at the meatloaf as though it were made of turds. Then again, it might have been. “And you gave it to me? To eat?”

 “Yeah. You’ll need it.”

“Why didn’t you warn me?” She smacked him. It was like being batted by a kitten. “Twelve hundred calories is my whole day!”

He grinned. He could burn that much with a good fart. “Perfect. It’s probably all you’ll get. Eat up.”

“For twelve hundred calories, I could have eaten a cheesecake.” He looked around for the cheesecake. She shoved her tiny chunk of meatloaf at him. “Here, you eat it.”

He pushed it back. “You eat it. We have a lot of ground to cover today.”

“We do?” She tipped her head to the side. “Where are we going?”

“There’s an island to the south.” He grabbed a stick and sketched out a quick map. “We’re here. At the north end of this island. And the secondary extraction point is here.”

Her throat worked. “How will we get to the other island?”

“Swim.” She paled. “I-I can’t swim.” It was probably rude to stare. But really? She couldn’t swim? Who couldn’t swim?

“You never wanted to learn?”

“Oh, I wanted to.” She sighed. “My mother was afraid I would drown.”

“Not drowning is kind of the point of swimming.”

“She wanted to keep me safe.” He didn’t miss the exasperation in her tone. “I didn’t get to do a lot of things. Which is probably why— And wouldn’t you know it? The first time?” She gazed at him as though she’d finished a sentence. As though he’d understood a bit of what she’d said.

“Well, don’t worry. We’ll get you home safe. And then everything will be just the way it was before.”

 Her sudden frown mystified him.

Veterans Day Remembrances (and a GC giveaway!)

It's going to be a busy 3 days in the Forella household!

Today is my son's birthday. Please take a minute to wish a very happy and healthy birthday to my favorite 1LT!  This is a picture of my handsome son and his beautiful wife at his promotion in July. I'm so very proud of the man he's become! I wish I could take some credit for it, but I really can't, because he's been amazing since the day he was born. But don't tell him I said that, it'll go to his head!

Then the very next day is my birthday! And since I'm such a kind and generous soul (no snickering allowed from the peanut gallery!), I'll be giving one lucky winner a present! Everyone who likes me on Facebook by Nov. 11 at 11:59 pm will be entered to win a $25 gift card from Amazon!  :)  I'll announce the winner on my Facebook page on the evening of Nov. 12.

Click here for a chance to win!

And then, November 11. Veterans Day. It's more than just a 3-day weekend for my son's birthday. Not for me and my birthday, but for him. It's a chance to honor those serving in our armed forces and to remember those who have served both at home and abroad. I'll be saying a special prayer today for three members of my family and my extended family who are currently serving in the US armed forces today. First on my list, of course, is my favorite CONUS-based 1LT. Thank goodness he's not in harm's way on a daily basis, I don't think my heart could handle it! My poor heart goes through enough worrying about my favorite 2LT and my favorite Army Ranger! I about have a stroke whenever I hear something on the news. I don't know how his mother stays sane! And then there's my favorite soon-to-be Army helicopter pilot. Who is the sister of my favorite Army Ranger. Good grief, another one to worry about! I never thought I'd see the day when I worried about Army personnel.  :)  Their mother is my dearest friend, the friend who's been with me the longest, but I can't say my oldest friend because I'm a month older than her and she never lets me forget it! It's a good thing I love her!

I stole, er, borrowed this picture from her Facebook page.

But my list isn't complete yet. I'll be saying a prayer in memory of my maternal grandfather who served in the Navy in WWII. And one in memory of my paternal uncle who just passed away who served in the Air Force. And another one in honor of my other paternal uncle who served in the Navy. And I'll be saying a very special prayer in honor of my father who served in the Air Force for 25 years. I love you, Daddy!

Please say a prayer, give thanks, or show your respect in any way you see fit. Some gave all and all gave some.

And don't forget! Deadly Briefs, Book 1 of the Class of '93 Trilogy will soon be available for Kindle! No word yet on books 2 and 3, but they're coming!

Available on Kindle Nov. 15

Less than six weeks til the release of Hard As It Gets and I'm getting very excited! I just finished the second book in the series, too (called Hard As You Can), and I just love being immersed in this world!

Now that we're getting closer, I have a number of fun things to share with you:

First, a video about the series. Yes, that's me being a little dorky but don't watch for me, watch for the hot tattooed guys!!! LOL

Second, Hard As It Gets had a very awesome week in reviews and I'm so excited because all three of these represent firsts for me: first review ever from Publishers Weekly and Booklist, and first Top Pick! from RT Book Reviews! Take a look:

"Sizzling romance. The intriguing tattoo parlor and military background will appeal to fans of Suzanne Brockmann and Lindsay McKenna." ~Publishers Weekly

"TOP PICK! Joining the Avon ranks is hot new star Kaye, who kicks off a suspenseful and electrifying new series featuring tarnished soldiers trying to regain their stolen honor. The collision of Nick and Becca's lives makes for sizzling danger with a spicy edge. Kaye is one to watch!" ~RT Book Reviews Magazine

"Kaye's depiction of sexual tension and her sex scenes are masterful, and this will appeal to fans of Maya Banks' KGI and Julie Ann Walker's Black Knight series." ~Booklist

MEEP!!! LOL

Third, each Tuesday between now and 11/26, I'll be sharing a new chapter excerpt from Hard As It Gets on my Facebook page, so bookmark and come back each Tuesday to get a taste of the book before it releases!

Fourth, we've got a reward of some exclusive content for anyone who pre-orders Hard As It Gets (or who already has pre-ordered)! Submit proof of pre-order using this form, and on December 1 you'll receive my behind-the-scene notes and character dossier for the whole Hard Ink team!

Always a Marine Series Rumble

It's August and dang it's hot outside! Hardly shocking, I know, but it's not the sizzle, but the steam of summer in the south that has me hiding indoors with the a/c on!  As we roll towards getting the kids ready to go back to school, savor those last few weeks of summer vacation and eye the Halloween displays setting up opposite the Back to School sales, I'm hosting a game over on Facebook to pick your favorite hero from my Always a Marine series.

The rules are simple, you just have to vote in the poll. Round One is live right now and on Monday (August 5th), I'll open Round Two. Winners from each round will advance to the next and 'face-off' against each other for your votes. The last Marine 'standing' in the final round will be featured in a free short story that will run in my newsletter and later be posted to my website!

The first round of face-offs are as follows:

  • Luke [Once Her Man, Always Her Man] vs James [Tell it To the Marine]
  • Logan [Retreat Hell, She Just Got Here/No Regrets, No Surrender] vs Damon [Proud to Serve Her]
  • Zach [Retreat Hell, She Just Got Here/No Regrets, No Surrender] vs Brody [Her Marine]
  • Jazz [Retreat Hell, She Just Got Here/No Regrets, No Surrender] vs Kim [The Two and the Proud]
  • AJ [The Marine Cowboy] vs Rowdy [The Two and the Proud]
  • Brenden [A Marine and a Gentleman] vs Mary [Combat Barbie]
  • Joe [Whiskey Tango Foxtrot] vs Matt [What Part of Marine, Don’t You Understand?]
  • Eli [A Marine Affair] vs Paul [Marine Ever After]
  • Greg [Marine in the Wind] vs Derek [Marine with Benefits]

Because of the odd number, the Marine with the highest number of overall votes in round one, will skip round two and advance to round three!

Pretty simple, huh? Voting can be found on the Always a Marine series Facebook page, be sure to vote in round one and check back for round two which will be posted on Monday!

I thought so, but to sweeten the late summer fun, I thought I'd throw in a giveaway for an Audible copy of 'A Marine and a Gentleman.'  (See the Rafflecopter below!) I love audio books particularly when its time to hit the road for my summer trips!

Speaking of trips, I'll be at Authors After Dark in Savannah the week of August 13th! If you're attending, be sure to look for me! I'd love to chat and follow me on Twitter for some fun 'where in Savannah is Heather' with a few prizes!

How are you spending the last few weeks of summer?

Military Men, Motorcycles and the Apocalypse by Stephanie Tyler

I have a ton of reasons for loving and writing milrom.  Some of them stem from family and friends who serve, some because I think that men and women who will sacrifice themselves to protect me are a special breed of person and that fascinates me.  I really enjoy the genre and the testosterone, alphaness, adrenaline rush that goes with it.

And even though I write across genres (straight romantic suspense, paranormal romance, erotica PNR and most recently, new adult) all my main characters have some link to the military.  My immortal Dire Wolves, for example, have all served in the military in some form or another since…well, for centuries J

So when I started thinking about writing my newest release, Defiance, I knew I wanted it to center around a motorcycle club.  I mean, that part of the story came to me instantly (because that’s another thing you’ll pretty much find in all my books—someone’s always riding a Harley) but for me, the most important part of that equation was making the MC truly military based.  From what I’ve read, many of the earliest MCs were born from vets returning from war.  The clubs allowed them to ride for pleasure (something many of them learned to do in the military) and gave them a sense of brotherhood, while also giving them their adrenaline rush back.

Defiance is a post apocalyptic New Adult MC book (and yes, that’s a mouthful) – and the Defiance MC was founded by Navy submariners who were also doomsday preppers before that became a hot reality TV topic.   It was important to me to have most of the men in the club as having served at one point or another—I think it gives the club a unique perspective and probably makes them better equipped to survive and thrive through what I’ve dubbed the Chaos.

So today, I’m going to give away 2 copies of Defiance (either Kindle or Nook, since I can gift from there!) –to be eligible, just tell me the last book you read!  I’ll leave the contest open all day and pick winners in the morning!

You can find out more about Defiance—and check out all my series at http://www.StephanieTyler.com!

Defiance:  (Defiance Book 1)

Rebelling against her legacy as the MC's princess, Tru Tennyson escaped the ruthless, male-dominated culture of the Defiance motorcycle club. Three years later, her newfound freedom is ripped away, thanks to a massive hybrid storm that killed millions. Now, in the post-Chaos world of semi-darkness and near-total anarchy where gangs rule, she discovers the dangerous world of Defiance may be the one thing that can keep her safe.

Tru is at the MC's mercy when she's dragged back to her former home … and to the only man she's ever pictured a future with. Caspar is the bastard son of the club's leader, her safe haven when life got rough — and her onetime lover the night she left. When Tru refuses to trade sex for power and be claimed by a rival club leader, she also dares to announce she wants Caspar instead, throwing the MC into turmoil.

Tru's brazen revolt could start a gang war and destroy the club from within. Now both Tru and the MC must wait for Caspar's response… and the inevitable fallout.

The Man Inside the Uniform

Thanks to everyone here at For the Love of Military Romance for having me today. I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to share my military and writing life with you and your readers. I'd be glad to give a copy of For Love or Duty away to a commenter. The winner will be posted in the comments so make sure you check back on the 15th!

June is a fun month! One, because my book For Love or Duty is one year old. I took a bold—and somewhat shaky—step into independent publishing last year with a romance about military life. I hope you’ll check it out. Since January 1st, all proceeds go to WoundedWarriors in Action. That’s not to say it’s a charity case! Haha. It’s a light, fun, and quick read.

The other awesome thing about June is my husband’s birthday. 37 this year, he joined the Army at the age of 34. He was one of the last people to be given an age waiver in 2010 for his Officer Packet, which is basically the application for approval to sign on with the Army. At the time, he’d gone to all of the recruiting offices to see what his options were—Army, Navy [his dad was in the Navy], Marines, and Air Force. What I love about his recruitment story is that he wanted to join the Army. He didn’t settle for the Army. You want to know why?

Because, of the branches willing to take an ‘old’ guy, the Army was the only one who would put him through basic training. He WANTED to be tested. He wanted to earn the rank on his chest through more than just academic achievement. Bottom line, I’m so proud of what he’s done and what he’s made of himself [yes, he’s very muscley now].

But the truth is…I love the man inside the uniform—well, yes, in more ways than one. I’m one of the lucky wives who had her soldier before the Army did. I love the man who has been by my side since we met in the fall of 1998. And though he refuses the label of Accountant, he did four years in college, two years of tax law, and then another year to study and take the CPA exam. We forgive him for that.
What he really loves to do is work with his hands…

He loves wood and building stuff. He can renovate a house, build a house, and create beautiful pieces of furniture. He’s at home in the garage and in his shop. He’s my devoted [don’t tell him I said that; it does sound cheesy] handy man. My passionate Italian. My orderly German. The loving father of our children and a faithful man of God. He’s so much more than just a soldier to me.
We love our life in the military. Love the adventures we’ve already been on and the ones we’ll take in the future. This is our life, and there isn’t anywhere else I’d rather be.

Guest Author Katie Reus & Giveaway

Thanks so much to Melissa and the ladies here for inviting me to hang out today! I absolutely LOVE the title and concept of this blog.

I’m a huge fan of military romance and while none of my books take place when the hero or heroine is actually serving, the majority of my guys have military backgrounds. Okay, I’m wracking my brain trying to think if there’s even one hero of mine who never served in any branch and I can’t think of one. Because even my paranormal guys have military backgrounds. It might be 100 years ago, but all of them wore a uniform at one time or another. So, not just the majority, but all of them! Even a few of my ladies have military backgrounds.

I get asked a lot of the same questions (hence my new faq page on my website!) and one of them is ‘Why do you write so many former military heroes?’ The answer is pretty simple.

I met and married my husband while he was in the Marines and I’ve seen firsthand how heroic men and women in uniform truly are. Not only that but I’ve seen the sacrifices their spouses and children make and I have the utmost respect for them. A military life, whether you’re the one wearing the uniform or attached to someone who is, can be difficult. Totally worth it, but still, it’s hard.

When I first started writing, it wasn’t even a conscious decision to write heroes with a military background. I wrote about the men and women I had respect for and it just developed that way and stuck. And I’ve got to say, there is something incredibly honorable and yes, sexy about a man in uniform.

In my most recent release, Breaking Her Rules, both the heroine and hero have Marine backgrounds. They both have such strong, disciplined personalities so writing about them was a lot of fun. As a thank you to the ladies here for hosting me I’d love to give away a copy of Breaking Her Rules to one random commenter. I’ll leave it open until tomorrow, 4/13/2013 at noon Central and announce the winner in the comments section so please check back.

If you don’t win a copy, Breaking Her Rules is available now for 99 CENTS for a limited time from: Amazon, Amazon UK, Barnes & Noble, iTunes Bookstore, Kobo Books and All Romance eBooks

Thanks again for having me!
