Hello, all! I'm happy to report that the next Hot SEALs book arrives a week from today. One of the things I love about writing military men is the sense of brotherhood, and how they give each other a hard time, even while being willing to kill or die for their fellow soldier. Please enjoy this all new excerpt from Loved by a SEAL below, which I think gives the reader a little peek into that mentality. And remember to sign up for new release and sale email alerts at catjohnson.net/news !

EXCERPT from Loved by a SEAL

“So I glance over and Rocky is literally face to face with this huge snake that I swear is looking him right in the eye, like they were in some sort of staring contest.” Thom’s recount of the story to the guys back on base got more animated with each telling, though Brody had to admit it had been pretty funny. “I swear, dude, this snake was like six inches away from the tip of Rocky’s nose.”

Eyes wide, Jon glanced at Rocky. “What the fuck did you do?”

Brody laughed. “Probably shit his pants.”

Rocky frowned. “Did not. And let’s see how you’d react.”

Thom wasn’t about to let the story go unfinished just because Brody and Rocky were bickering. He launched into the next part, saying, “So he was in the middle of checking in at the time. So command is freaking out on the radio because all they hear is Rocky cursing and then dead air.”

Grant rolled his eyes. “I wasn’t freaking out, but I was starting to think my star team—the ringers I hand-picked and flew in just for this freaking op—had gotten ambushed.”

“Aw, we’re your stars? That’s nice.” Brody grinned, teasing Grant.

Grant cocked a brow. “Don’t let it go to your head.”

Undeterred, Thom forged ahead. “So this is the best part. Mack reaches over, as calm as anything. You know, as if this shit happens to him everyday. He snatches the snake, lops off its head with his KA-BAR and then goes back to manning his rifle.”

“It was no big deal.” Mack shrugged. “But that species is deadly so if it had bit him, that would have been a big deal.”

Rocky let out a visible shudder. “Ugh, I hate snakes.”

“We all have our little quirks.” Grant smiled.

Navy SEALs vs. Cowboys: Sharon's Top Ten List

David Letterman will be missed. Love him or hate him, with his goofy smile and mischievous irreverence for almost everything except entertaining audiences, in true funny man fashion, we laugh at things that are sometimes uber serious today.

So, in honor of Mr. Letterman and the vacuum he will create with his leaving the Late Night program, here's another one of my Top Ten lists.

TOP TEN REASONS NAVY SEALS ARE BETTER THAN COWBOYS:

10.  Because a SEAL has just as much cool equipment as a cowboy but doesn't smell like a horse.

9.  The hats are smaller, they can get dirty, and have cool patches like Punisher, (Hello Punisher for the ladies), skulls and crossbones.

8.  Hard to jump from 13,000 feet on a horse, even if he's riding in to save the day.

7.  He's equipped with high powered scopes, rifles and night vision goggles that would look funny on a cowboy.

6.  Navy SEALs kill swamp things. They don't make them into boots.

5.  Hard to get the horse on a SWCC boat, even if he is going to ride in to save the day.

4.  SEALs have cool tats.

3.  If there's trouble in the world, he'll be in the middle of it. He loves danger.

2.  A SEAL can't tell you where he's been, and that's okay.

And the No. 1 reason a Navy SEAL is better than a cowboy?

A Navy SEAL can also be a cowboy, but not necessarily the other way around.

Now, I suspect Cat Johnson, J.M. Madden and others will have something to say about this list, so I lay down the challenge. You know I love them all, but my heart and soul will always belong to the SEALs and what they do for you and I every day.

Join Sharon and several of her writing buddies in upcoming anthologies this summer. Enjoy your ride and come play with us!

Win a SEALed at Midnight (Hot SEALs) Audiobook!

Hot SEALs by Cat Johnson

My SEALed at Midnight (a Hot SEALs romance) is in Audio!

Readers, do you do audio? I have to admit, I never did until I had to start reviewing the files from the narrator I hired to record my SEAL series and now I enjoy listening to my stories come to life. Although it is still odd for me, as an author, to hear my own words read aloud, particularly the sex scenes!!

Anyway, to help introduce readers to audio, or feed the audiobook habit for existing audiobook lovers, I'll give 5 (yes, FIVE) lucky readers a FREE Audible.com download code for my SEALed at Midnight. It's a great way to give audio a try and see if you like it.

The Rules: Email me at cat@catjohnson.net to enter to win one free audible.com download code for the SEALed at Midnight audiobook. One entry per person please. 5 (five) winners to be chosen at random on April 17, 2015 at 9 am Eastern Time and posted here. International entries accepted however, the winner must be able to access either the Audible US or Audible UK sites to retrieve their prize download.

Here is a little teaser. Please note the audiobook only contains the sexy male narrator's voice. All the extra sounds in this video (footsteps, squeaking door, etc) were added by me because I discovered a cool sound effect tool in my MacBook's video editor and I was having fun using it!

Enjoy!

SEAL Brotherhood Series Continues: SEAL My Home (Bad Boys of SEAL Team 3, Book 2)

Home-grown terrorists who prey on military families? Innocents being targeted for no other reason than they are the family of our elite warriors? Never having family, but finding it among the Teams. These are the memes of my book.

Hard to believe this is now my 9th SEAL Brotherhood. Back when I wrote my first one, thinking I'd make a good Harlequin author, I had no idea that these men of the Brotherhood would become such a huge part of my life. But they have. And they're not stopping.

SEAL My Home is my second book in the Bad Boys of SEAL Team 3 series. Like T.J. Talbot in SEAL's Promise, Rory Kennedy has also grown up in foster care, with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, and a lot of demons to shed. Like so many of our fine brave SEALs today, this is a common story: men who found their first sense of family among the Teams. It's a journey they all have to follow to become a SEAL, to sacrifice for the men on your right and left, be willing to die for them.

Here's a very short description:

Bad boy Rory Kennedy was raised in foster care, bouncing in and out of trouble along the way. He finds his true family and real brothers as a Navy SEAL, one of the Navy’s elite warriors. When his BUD/S instructor barked the SEAL’s Motto: Only Easy Day Was Yesterday, he knew he had found home.

Megan Palmer works in a bookstore and finds her passion in life through reading steamy romance novels. Her brief affair with a man she later found out was married has left her damaged, until she meets the handsome SEAL, who stands ready to open her world and give her things she’s only dreamed.

On a skiing trip, Rory suffers a possible career-ending injury and also comes face to face with a past he never knew of, and a family who had abandoned him. His relationship with Megan is tested to the breaking point as Rory wades through the dark waters of recovery and whether or not he can live without the life he loves. A home-grown terrorist cell forces his hand and he discovers his true purpose.

I hope you'll continue the journey with me. What kind of a SEAL book would you like me to write for you?

Can We Talk About Navy SEALs?

Think it's time to talk a bit. We've seen things in the news concerning reveals about Navy SEALs and their tactics, their mental capabilities and their planned missions. There is a lot of controversy about this, and I am not clear on which side of the fence I stand, except to say that I want our bravest and best-trained warriors protected, at all costs. There's a mystique to being a SEAL because much of what they do has to be kept secret. And we all know there is temptation not to keep those secrets.

So, as a writer, I walk a fine line between accuracy and storytelling, all the time worrying about protecting the fine men and women who put themselves in harm's way so we can write the crazy books we do, and go run around and do unmentionable things with our lives. Our SEALs signed on for this. They are our warriors and they want us to have a normal life.

There are details in my books I've written on purpose incorrectly. There are probably details in my books I've written incorrectly by accident. I don't think I've gotten wrong the community or the character of the men who serve as SEALs. The how of what they do might vary, but the why and the way they are I believe is as accurate as I can make it. I love the smack talk and the sense of humor these usually soft-spoken warriors have.

Now we have hundreds of writers thinking they can write Navy SEAL romances. I love reading the blurbs where SEALs perform jobs real SEALs would never do, or serve in capacities they would never serve under. Reviewers don't pick these up, and I think that's fine. The bottom line is that it's good all this misinformation is out there. I hope our enemies are reading all the Navy SEAL romances, because they'll get pretty confused when they do. If they read my SEAL stories they'll get a lot of sex education too. Some of our enemies I think might need a little of this.

And that would probably make a SEAL chuckle to himself. He'd never tell you that you are an idiot writer getting facts and figures wrong, well, maybe if you knew him well enough he would. Have I been an idiot? You bet. Proudly. Will I continue to be? Hey, the more newbie SEAL writers there are out there the better I look. LOL. Seriously. We're talking about FICTION. We aren't writing Tom Clancy or WEB Griffin or Dick Couch.

As one SEAL told me, "Just make it up. If you can imagine it, it probably happened."

And so I have.

You can watch my Chapter One Live read of SEAL's Promise here. Some adult content language some of my fans think is funny seeing me say.

SEAL's Promise Excerpt (TJ Talbot and his best friend are talking about dating and other unmentionable things - strong language here). Hear the buttery, romantic voice of my Warrior Storyteller, JD Hart, as he breathes life into my words. The audio book will be out any day now.

SEAL's Promise is available on Kindle, and iTunes, Nook and Kobo.
